Four scoring plays of over 40 yards were too much to overcome for the Alliance JV football team in game against Cheyenne Central on Monday. The Dogs fell to the Indians 34 to 8 in a contest played in Alliance. Cheyenne scored 21 points in the second quarter to gain the win. Bulldog quarterback Jay Shelmadine scored for Alliance in the third period to pull the Bulldogs to within 19 but it wasn’t enough.
Alliance got the ball first and couldn’t muster any yards and was forced to punt. Starting at the 37, the Indian offense quickly went to work. Cheyenne Central at the 3:58 mark would score on a 47 yard touchdown run to go up 6 to 0. Strong runs by Alliance’s Coy Childers and EJ Garcia and a successful pass to receiver Devan Graham helped the Dogs gain some yards on their next possession. The period ended with a punt by Alliance and the Bulldogs down 6 to 0.
The second quarter had Cheyenne getting on the scoreboard again.
With 9:53 showing on the clock, the guests scored on a 46 yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good as the Dogs trailed 13 to 0. Smiley Valdovinos gave Alliance get field position on the ensuing kick return. His return of 25 yards placed the ball at midfield but three straight unsuccessful plays followed and the Bulldogs were forced to punt. The Indians would then score for the third time to increase their advantage. Cheyenne scored on a 42-yard run that put the visitors ahead 20 to 0 with 8 minutes left in the half. On Cheyenne’s next drive, an interception by Alliance’s Jake Benigno prevented any more points. The Dog offense then got more nice plays by Childers and Garcia to move the ball deep into Cheyenne territory. But a pick by the Indians denied a Bulldog score. The big plays by Cheyenne
then continued as the Indians scored again on an 87-yard td run. The half closed with another interception by Cheyenne and a sack by Alliance’s Mikey Johnson. Half time score Cheyenne 27

In the third, the Alliance offense got in gear. A big run by Garcia covering 27 yards for the Dogs got Alliance close. Helped by a couple of penalties by the guest, the Bulldogs got inside the 10. Shelmadine capped off the drive by scoring from the 3 yard line. The extra point was good on a pass from Shelmadine to Nason Thompson. With 3:13 left in the period, the Alliance deficit was sliced to 27 to 8. The quarter ended with a Cheyenne punt and the Dogs down by 19.
An Indian sack stopped Alliance on their first drive in the fourth as the Dogs were forced to punt. The game’s final points came at the 5:40 mark with a Cheyenne td that went 14 yards. Alliance had one more chance but a turnover ended the drive. Final Cheyenne 34 Alliance 8
