In some manner he has been hypnotized since coming to Alliance and the hallucination is such that he persists in dogging the footsteps of the bankers and begging for loans. Then these Shylocks take advantage of his helpless condition and try to close him out.

Mrs. Manchester, who has been in a nervous and overworked condition from the incessant care incident to attendance of her husband, collapsed Wednesday evening and had three attacks of lockjaw, her life being saved only by the constant attendance of a physician all night. In the afternoon she has three nerves removed from teeth, which is believed to have contributed to the collapse.

Fire was discovered between the smoker and chair car on No. 43 Saturday, when the train was about five miles east of Whitman. The chair car was the fifth from the engine and the smoker the fourth and the fire was between the two coming up thru the vestibules but seemingly having emanated from the chair car.

“The Alliance bunch” of girls at the state school at Geneva are making good in their lessons, deportment and work according to Sheriff George P. Jones, who has just returned from a trip there. “The superintendent referred to them as “’the Alliance bunch’ and they are making good,” said Sheriff Jones. “They lead in their classes, in their deportment and in their general work.”

Judging from the number of eggs received and distributed from the Alliance Creamery, people are eating a lot more eggs this season than ever before. To date the local institution has received 7,200,000 eggs which means a lot of cackling by the hens.

Burton A., 39, Erickson, Neb., laborer who was arrested last weekend for check forgery, pleaded guilty to that charge Wednesday afternoon in district court and was sentenced to one year in the penitentiary by Judge Earl L. Meyer. Burton wrote two checks totaling $10 and passed them at the J. C. Penney Co., signing the name of “Straus.”

Citizens of Alliance must cooperate with each other and with the city if radio interference is to be eliminated, city officials declared today. A report submitted to the council Thursday night by Adrian Clark, hired by the city to handle the interference campaign, revealed that much has been accomplished, but that there is much more to do.

Harry S. of Hemingford was found guilty in county court this morning of bootlegging liquor and was fined $50 and costs and sentenced to jail for 30 days by Judge P. E. Romig.

Slick trick: Boy at Fourth and Box Butte using drinking fountain as stationary squirt gun with which to water passing autos. Deft application of finger to head of fountain does the work. Good manipulation puts stream of water smack-dab on windshield, no doubt improving visibility for driver.

The Alliance Volunteer Fire Department was called out at 12:30 this afternoon to extinguish a minor blaze at the city warehouse. Employees at the warehouse were welding and apparently a spark started the blaze. The extent of the damage was not yet known.

Highways running through Alliance were filled today with hunters looking for accommodations during the Western Nebraska deer season which opens Saturday and runs through Nov. 9. Snow in Alliance and Chadron, coupled with forecasts of additional snow, promised a good hunting day Saturday.

An anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers led to the arrest of a man suspected in the kidnapping of an Alliance 7-Eleven clerk on the morning of Oct. 20. A spokesperson for the Alliance Police Department told the Times-Herald late Friday night that a white male in his late 20s was placed into custody around noon Friday and is being held in the Box Butte County Regional Law Enforcement Center.

The recent creation of a no parking zone around the perimeter of St. Agnes Academy has residents in the area upset with the city. Richard Schommer told the council Thursday evening that last Friday he noticed that parking on the St. Agnes side of the street was no longer allowed since the curb had beebn painted yellow.

The council considered second reading of the ordinance concerning sale of a corner lot at Hammond Lane and Buchfinck Ave. to Margaret Reynolds. Nearby home owners are concerned the type of home Ms. Reynolds plans to place there will diminish value of their property.

A letter that was sent on July 28 by the Department of Health and Human Services to Vernon Platt, Grantee Governing Body President, stated that this agency is “a Grantee with Deficiencies.”
