A two and a half hour bus ride Thursday night to Sutherland didn’t slow down the Hemingford football team. Using the same formula of a strong running game and a lights out defensive effort, the Cats took down the Sailors 69 to 0 to improve to 6 and 0 for the year. Hemingford led 46 to 0 at halftime and added three touchdowns in the second stanza in getting the win.
Hemingford received the rock first and quickly got on the board. A nice return by Bobcat Lucas Sulzbach started the drive. Running Zaine Feist had 3 strong gains as the Cats got close. From the three, quarterback Jacob Bryner scored then added the PAT as the Cats went up 8 to 0 with 10:57 left in the period. The squads then traded turnovers with Feist recovering a Sailor miscue. With under 6 minutes remaining, Bryner scored from the one. His extra point made it 16 to 0. The quarter came to an end with 2 more Hemingford touchdowns. A 46 yard TD pass from Bryner to Talon Payne extended the Cat advantage. Feist added the point after. At the 1:47 mark, Feist scored again with Bryner tacking on the PAT. The Bobcats led 32 to 0 after one period of action.
Hemingford remained stout on D in the second as Sutherland remained scoreless. A seven TD pass from Bryner to Jayce Haas made it 40 to 0 with 6 minutes left in the half . The second quarter came to an end with a 41 yard TD strike from Bryner to Carson Haas. After 2 periods of play, the guests led 46 to 0.
Sutherland got the ball first in the third and were turned away. The Cats added to their margin on a 44 yard TD sprint by Carson Haas. Bryner added the PAT with a successful kick, putting the score at 53 to 0. Big defensive plays by Bryner and Owen Plug stopped the following Sailor possession. Both players had QB sacks. With a running clock, there were few attempts in the period. The quarter closed with the visitors up by 53. In the fourth, Hemingford extended its lead with TD runs by Sulzbach and Carson Haas.
