The Box Butte County Bad Boys 10-Under baseball team competed in the Father’s Day Tournament in Gering over the weekend. The Bad Boys drew the eventual tournament champion in game one of pool play, Diamond Club of Denver, Colorado. The Bad Boys could only manage two hits, a double by Teagen O’Gorman in the first inning and a single by Miguel Galvan in the third. Fletcher Moseman pitched the entire game surrendering eight hits and ten runs while striking out two. The Bad Boys fell, 10-0.
The Bad Boys bats came alive on Saturday morning as the Bad Boys defeated the Cheyenne Mustangs, 9-1. The offense started immediately as Izzy Garcia drove in two in the first with a double. Garcia was also on the mound for the Bad Boys allowing no runs over three innings and striking out five. Miguel Galvan pitched one inning in relief allowing one run on one hit and striking out one. The Bad Boys were also aggressive on the base paths as O’Gorman, Jace Jensen and Cormic Stark all managed stolen bases.
Saturday afternoon saw the Bad Boys lose a heart breaker against the Gillette Bulldogs, 8-7, in walk-off fashion. The Bad Boys jumped out to an early lead with two in the first inning. The Bad Boys would extend their lead to 4-0 with two more in the top of the second. Gillette’s bat woke up in the second inning as they plated 2 in the second and 4 in the third to take a 6-5 lead. Gillette held the Bad Boys scoreless in the 4th and scored 1 in the bottom half to extend their lead to 7-5. The Bad Boys tied the game at 7 in the top of the 5th. An RBI double in the bottom of the 5th secured the win for Gillette 8-7. Teagen O’Gorman got the start on the mound for the Bad Boys lasting 2 1/3 innings. O’Gorman allowed seven hits and six runs. Casyn Nelson threw the final 1 2/3rds for the Bad Boys. O’Gorman was 3-3 at the plate. The Bad Boys also got hits from Izzy Garcia, Casyn Nelson, Jace Jensen and Dixon Bair.
The Bad Boys finished the tournament with a tough loss on Sunday morning to WYCO 2029 Blue, 13-9. The game was tied at 2 after one inning when the WYCO bats came alive plating 5 runs in the second. The Bad Boys came back with 5 in the third only to see WYCO plate 6 more in the bottom half. The Bad Boys scored two more in the 4th when the game was called due to time restrictions. Izzy Garcia and Miguel Galvan led the Bad Boys each going 2-2. The Bad Boys also saw clutch hits from Casyn Nelson, Logan Freiberger and Cisco Cody. Izzy Garcia, Casyn Nelson, Fletcher Moseman, and Cormic Stark all took the mound for the Bad Boys.
The Box Butte Bad Boys will be in action again at the Cal Ripken State Tournament in Gering, Nebraska over the Fourth of July Weekend.
