Two Box Butte County 4-H members were among 189 4-H youth who participated in the 4-H State Fair Fashion Show back on Saturday, August 26, 2023, in Raising Nebraska in Grand Island. 4-H members modeled for a panel of judges and for a crowd estimated at 1,100 during the Nebraska State Fair.
Kamryn Haas, age 11, received a purple ribbon in the State Fair 4-H Fashion Show, modeling an embellished jean jacket. Kamryn has been a 4-H member for three years and has participated in the county fashion show all three years. This was Kamryn’s first-time modeling at the state fair.
Ayvrie Waldron, age 16, received a purple ribbon in the State Fair 4-H Fashion Show, showcasing her consumer skills with a purchased garment. Ayvrie also received a purple ribbon modeling her Level 3 constructed Dress. Ayvrie was one of four exhibitors to win the Best of Show constructed Fashion Show Awards this year. These garments were on display in the 4-H Design Gallery in the 4-H & FFA Exhibition Building at the State Fair. Our winners also received cash awards from sponsors, Extension Educator, Andrea Nisley and Emeritus Extension Educator, Sarah Purcell. Ayvrie Waldron has been a 4-H member in Box Butte County for 10 years and has participated in the county fashion show for all 10 years. This is Ayvrie’s sixth year participating in the State Fair Fashion Show.
Other special awards went to: Karla Herrarte of Dawson County, she received the 2023 Nebraska Make It With Wool 4-H Fashion Show plaque presented by Andrea Nisley, the Nebraska Make it with Wool State Director and sponsored in memory of Alice Doane, past State Director for the Nebraska Make It With Wool. The Best of Show Fashion Show Awards for Shopping in Style were presented to Miranda Betson of Dawes County and Olia Linhart of York County. These two cash awards were sponsored by Megan Burda of Brick Road Boutique out of Geneva, Nebraska.
