Breem Brings Home a Fourth Place Medal at the State Meet in High Jump

Five athletes for the St. Agnes Academy qualified for the state junior high meet track meet held in Gothenburg on Saturday. The Crusaders had one medalist in 8th grader Maslin Breem. With a new school record leap of 5’0, Breem ended in fourth place. Tying for 12th place in the girls’ pole vault were Alliance’s Reese Armstrong and Alexis Shelmadine who both cleared 8 foot. Despite an injury, Tripp Johnson participated in both the mile and 800. Johnson ended 23rd in the 800 with a time of 2:38 and 22nd in the mile with a time of 5:43. Penn Vergil was a double qualifier for the Academy. In the high jump, Vergil was 18th with a mark of 4’6. Vergil broke her own school record in the 800 with a time of 2:29 which was good for 13th overall.

Taking first in the boy’s team race was Columbus Scotus with 45.5 points while Gretna was the runner up with 38 points. For the girls, it was Northwest first with 38 points and Mary Our Queen second with 31.5 points.

St. Agnes ends a very successful track year with many new school records. The girls were also first for the third straight season at their conference meet. Breen now has the record in the high jump while Shelmadine holds the record in both the hurdles and pole vault. Vergil has the school record in the 800. St. Agnes’ girls also broke relay records in both the 400 and mile. The boys also recorded a new record in the 2 mile relay.
