Top seeded Broken Bow flexed its muscles Tuesday in a girl’s basketball contest against Alliance. Using a big spree in the first half, the Lady Indians defeated AHS 58 to 13. The game was played at Boone Central High School in Albion. With the loss, the Bulldogs now have a 2 and 6 record on the year. Four teams are competing in the holiday tournament. Along with Alliance and Broken Bow, others schools taking part are Hastings Adams Central High School and Boone Central. The Indians ran off 31 straight points and led 41 to 9 at halftime. Leading scorer for Alliance was Reese Armstrong who had 7 points.
A bucket by Armstrong gave the Dogs a brief 2 to 0 lead. Bow came back with 5 in a row before a hoop by Bulldog Addison Weber made it 5 to 4. The squads then traded threes with Armstrong nailing one for Alliance. All Indians after that. Broken Bow scored the period’s next 10 tallies and led 18 to 7 heading to the second.
Quarter 2 was huge for the Indians. Bow outscored Alliance 23 to 2 to increase its margin. AHS was down 39 to 7 before another deuce by Armstrong ended the Alliance drought with less than 2 minutes remaining in the half. The stanza came to an end with another basket by the Lady Indians and Alliance trailing 41 to 9.
Action slowed in the third with the Indians tallying 8 points and Alliance getting just 2. Eight consecutive points by Bow put the Alliance deficit at 49 to 9. Quarter #3 finished with Alliance’s Hannah Benzel hitting a pair of free throws. Heading to the fourth, the Indians were in control, leading by 38.
A pair of Broken Bow treys early in the final put the score at 55 to 11. Three more tallies ensued by the Indians as the Alliance offense continued to struggle. The affair came to a conclusion with Bulldog Paz Cody scoring and AHS falling 58 to 13.
