BBGH is pleased to announce that TaLisa Brown, an Occupational Therapist in The Rehab and Wellness Center, has successfully completed the rigorous certification process to become a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT).
The Hand Therapy Certification Commission (HTCC) provides a credentialing program and establishes the standards for hand therapy practices. With an average pass rate of just 59 percent, earning this certification is a remarkable achievement. A CHT must have a minimum of three years of clinical experience, including 4,000 hours or more of direct hand therapy, and pass a comprehensive test of advanced clinical skills. Brown is one of only 42 CHTs in the state of Nebraska. Patients would otherwise need to travel to Rapid City, Cheyenne, or Denver for similar services.
Brown’s devotion to the profession and desire for in-depth expertise demonstrates her commitment to providing exceptional care. With her new certification, Brown is now qualified to treat a wide range of upper extremity conditions resulting from trauma or disease. Diagnoses seen by Occupational Therapists in Hand Therapy include fractures of the hand/arm, lacerations and amputations, burns, surgical repairs of tendons and nerves, tendonitis, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Patients will benefit from accurate assessments, immediate care, and effective treatment plans resulting in faster recovery.
“TaLisa has been an integral part of the rehab team for 8 years,” said Tim Devlin, Rehab Manager. “She embodies the BBGH values of excellence, devotion, and safety in her work with her patients.”
