Buckley Outlasts Navy Team 5 to 4 in a Thriller

Chappell was site of an epic battle Monday between the Spartans of Alliance and the Buckley Bombers. And in the end it was the hometown Bombers getting the win 5 to 4. The battle was the first game of a doubleheader played by the 2 clubs. Buckley grabbed an early 3 to 0 lead and withstood a late rally by the Navy team in posting the victory. The Peltz Co had 9 hits on the night and were led by Teagan O’Gorman who had 3 knocks. Spartan Kyler Hamel went the distance for Alliance, giving up 7 hits and striking out 2. With the loss, the Peltz Co now has an 11-15-1 record for the year.

Alliance was turned away in the top of the first. A single by O’Gorman was the highlight of the frame. The Bombers grabbed an early 3 to 0 lead in the home half of the inning. Buckley used an error by Alliance, two doubles, and a walk to surge ahead by 3. In the second, the Spartans would get a hit by Dixon Bair but no runs. The Bombers also went scoreless in the second.

Two scores by the Peltz Co in the third made it a one run ball game. Hits by O’Gorman, Miguel Galvan, and Jayden Garcia made the score 3 to 2. The Bombers countered with a run of their own in the bottom of the third to move ahead 4 to 2. Inning #4 had Alliance getting one tally. Knocks by Reese Muhr and Casyn Nelson started the rally. The inning came a close with an RBI groundout by Jackson Devlin to make the board read Buckley 4 Spartans 3. Adams set down the Bombers in order in the bottom of the fourth, keeping the Spartans in striking distance.

Another hit by O’Gorman in the fifth gave Alliance hope in the top of the inning but the Spartan shortstop was left on the bases. Chappell had a run in the home half of the inning on a single and a double. Down 5 to 3, the Peltz Co plated one score in the top of the sixth. Garcia walked and moved into scoring position after a hit by Nelson. A sac fly Bair pulled the guests to within one at 5 to 4. Adams again kept the Spartans close with a scoreless inning in the bottom of the frame. He would get a k in the inning. Inning seven Alliance would get the tying run of the bases to start the inning but three straight outs recoded by Buckley ended the game. Final Bombers 5 Spartans 4
