It was a busy week in the world of Bulldog softball as they played a home game against Chadron, two away games against Oxford and Gothenburg, followed by a tournament in Holdrege. The Bulldogs had gone 3-3 for the week and bringing their overall record to 5-6.
The Bulldogs’ first game of the week was on August 23, where they took on Chadron in a home conference game. Alliance was up after the fourth inning 5-4. Chadron then scored a run in the fifth and sixth making the game 6-5, taking the lead over the Bulldogs. The seventh inning went scoreless and Chadron walked away with the win.
The winning pitcher for the game was Maci Rutledge of Chadron and the losing pitcher was Hallie Schnieder. The Bulldogs had nine hits for the night compared to Chadron’s 11, where Cali Acosta and Diane DuBray led Alliance in hits with two a piece, with four at bats.
The Bulldogs took on Southern Valley/Alma next in an away non-conference game. The Bulldogs made short work out of Oxford beating them 9-3, where the game ended at the bottom of the fifth inning. Hallie Schnieder was the winning pitcher of the game. She pitched five innings allowing five hits, three runs, seven strikeouts and walking three. Alliance had six hits over Oxford’s five, where Cali Acosta and Brianna Huston led with two hits apiece.
The Bulldogs then played again that day against Gothenburg in an away non-conference game. The Bulldogs came up short, with a final score 4-6. The winning pitcher for the game was Brianna Houchin who pitched for four innings allowing five hits, three runs striking out five and walking one. The losing pitcher for the game was Hallie Schnieder who pitched for 4.2 innings allowing five hits, five runs, stirking out one and walking three. Alliance had seven hits for the night compared to Gothenburg’s six. Cali Acosta and Amy Acosta led Alliance in hits with two apiece.
The Bulldogs traveled to the Holdrege softball invite on August 27, where they would take on Wilber first. The Bulldogs got the win over Wilber with a high scoring game of 18-11. Hallie Schnieder was the winning pitcher of the game, where she pitched for 2.4 innings allowing seven hits, seven runs, striking out four and walking one. Alliance had 16 hits compared to the Wolverines’ 11, where Hallie Schnieder led in hits with four hits and five at bats.
Alliance advanced in the tournament and went on to play Lexington. The Bulldogs got the win over Lexington with a score of 7-3. The winning pitcher for the game was Hallie Schnieder who pitched for six innings, allowing five hits, three runs, striking out four and walking zero. The losing pitcher of the game was Amaya Stewart, who pitched for 4.2 innings allowing five hits, eight runs striking out three and walking six. The Bulldogs and Minutewomen both had five hits for the night. Schnieder, Ciara Hudson, Kaiah Hudson, Alivia Osborn and Dana Reza all managed to get a hit and led Alliance.
The Bulldogs advanced to the championship game after beating the Minutewomen, where they would take on St. Paul. Alliance fell to the Wildcats for the championship with a score of 10-2. The winning pitcher of the game was Charlee Wegner who pitched for six innings, allowing three hits, two runs, striking out 12 and walking one. The losing pitcher of the game was Hallie Schnieder who pitched for 5.1 innings allowing nine hits, 10 runs, stiking out four and walking three.
