Following two tough loses over the weekend the Alliance boy’s basketball team got back into the winning column with a 77 to 38 win over the Tigers of Bayard on Tuesday. The Bulldogs fell to Mitchell on Friday and dropped a contest to Sidney on Saturday before taking down the Tigers. Alliance never trailed in the game and improved to 2 and 5 on the season. The Dogs also got the win in the JV contest played earlier. In a two quarter contest the junior varsity squad defeat the Tigers 46 to 13.
A steal and score by Bulldog Espen Lanik began play in the early minutes of the first period. Two more baskets by Lanik and a hoop by Fillippo Bandera gave the Bulldogs an 8 to 2 lead. Following a Tiger three Alliance answered right back with a trey by Landen Crowe and a 2 pointer by Bulldog senior to up their lead to 13 to 3. Alliance’s Tristen Timbers then would score the Dogs next 5 points as the period ended with the Dogs ahead 18 to 8. The guests from Alliance would then tally 24 second quarter points to put the contest away. Another 3 by Crowe began the scoring in the second. It was followed by 2 more scores by Lanik and a three pointer by Bulldog Seth Meyring. At the 5 minutes mark Alliance lead grew to 28 to 13. Back to back threes by Lanik and another bucket by Meyring then gave Alliance the lead at 36 to 14. The half closed with scores by Timbers and Bulldog reserves Jonah Amill and Burt Trevino. The teams went to half with Alliance up 42 to 21.
Any hopes of a Bayard comeback were quickly put away in the early minutes of the third. A three and a two pointer by Timbers plus a hoop by Crowe pushed the Alliance advantage to 49 to 21 at the six minute mark of the third. Two scores by Meyring and another 2 pointer by Amill gave Alliance a 30 point lead at 55 to 25 with under 3 minutes left in the quarter. The period finished with 4 more points by Trevino and Alliance up 59 to 29. The Bulldog starters would return for the first 4 minutes of the final stanza. Another three by Timbers was followed by 2 baskets by Meyring and a Lanik two which made the score 68 to 31.
