Bulldogs, Bull Pups Strive to be the Best in the West

The 2022 Best of the West Track and Field meet was hosted on April 27, at Bearcat Stadium in Scottsbluff, where qualifiers among the Alliance Bulldogs and Bull pups were in attendance to compete and find out who is the best in the west.

The Mens Varsity placed sixth out of 22 teams with a score of 32 and the Womens Varsity claimed sixth out of 24 teams with a team score of 41.

Many Bulldogs set new personal records at The Best of the West meet, showing everyone in attendance they came to compete.

Kids did a good job of competing! We had a number of personal bests so that is always exciting to see at a meet like this one. It isn’t always the case that the best times in the area are at one track meet and Best of the West showcases those races. I feel like we can still get better and that is what we will focus on in practice and during these last few meets heading into Districts,” said Coach Nate Lanik on the performance of The AHS qualifiers.

The Bulldogs had eight medal winners who had claimed gold, silver and bronze medals that day.

Isaiah Martinez proved he was a force to be reckoned with when he claimed two gold medals in Shot Put and Discus. Martinez broke two of his personal records with a throw of 51-04.50 in Shot Put and 150-02 in Discus.

Benjamin Cassatt-Reina also set a personal record with a time of 11:08.43a earning a bronze medal in the 3200 Meter.

Macey Seebohm earned a silver medal in the 800 Meter with a time of 2:29.41a and a bronze medal on the 4×800 Relay team with teammates Haylie Winter, Lily Wagner and Mikayla Seebohm where they ran a time of 10:36.44a

Jaelynne Clarke earned a bronze medal with a time of 1:01.33a setting herself a new personal record in the 400 Meter.

The Middle School Boys put on a show with an impressive performance, where they claimed third out of 21 other teams with a team score of 68. The girls ended up in a tie with Hay Springs for 21st out of 21 teams.

The boys claimed nine medals that day, where Trevor Zurn had been a double gold winner in the 400 and 800 Meter events. Zurn ran the 400 Meter in 54.17a setting a personal record and the 800 Meter in 2:18.30a setting a season record. Zurn was also on the 4×400 Relay team where Zurn and his teammates Espen Lanik, Trae Red Bear and Carson Swenson earned the bronze with a time of 3:58.34a

Jett Herian set a personal record in the 200 Meter with a time of 26.03a and earned the bronze.
