A big third quarter by Gothenburg was enough in Friday’s football matchup between the hometown Swedes and the Alliance Bulldogs.
G Burg outscored Alliance 20 to 0 in the third and went on to post a 46 to 12 win. With loss, the Dogs now see their record fall to 2 and 2 while the Swedes improved to 3 and 1.
Gothenburg used a solid running game to take the early lead. A Swede touchdown run of 9 yards at the 5:49 mark in the first period gave the hosts a lead at 7 to 0. Bulldogs were forced to punt on their next series and disaster struck as the Alliance punt was block and return for a Gothenburg scored. With 4 minutes remaining in period one, AHS trailed 14 to 0. On the Dog’s next drive the offense got things going. Nice gains by Dog Espen Lanik got Alliance close. With 35 seconds left in the opening quarter, Quarterback Landon Crowe concluded the drive with a 4 yard touchdown pass to Lanik.
End of the period saw the scoreboard read Gothenburg 14 Alliance 6. The only scoring in the second came from the hosts. A touchdown run of 12 yards with under 4 minutes to play put the Swedes up 20 to 6. At half Alliance was down by 14.
The hosts controlled the action in the third. Gothenburg had touchdowns runs of 20, 4 , and 6 to increase their margin. Meanwhile AHS was held scoreless. Heading to fourth, the Dogs were down 40 to 6. Both teams would score in the final period. At 10:35 a 4 yard touchdown run pushed the Swede lead to 46 to 6. Another touchdown pass by Crowe to Lanik ended the scoring for Alliance. The play covered 12 yards with 6 minutes left in the contest. Final G Burg 46 AHS 6
