The Alliance boys basketball team saw their season draw to a close on Saturday as the number 16 seeded Blair Bears beat the Bulldogs by eight points.
It was the District Championship game, which Alliance entered after defeating Sidney last Tuesday, drawing the subdistrict playoffs to a close. Alliance was the number one seeded team.
The Bulldogs started the game strong, taking the lead in the first quarter, but by halftime, the Bears were narrowing Alliance’s lead, ending the first half just three points behind the Bulldogs, 22-19.
In the third quarter, the Bears shredded the Bulldogs’ defense, racking up 15 points as the Bulldogs managed to only post two points in the last 37 seconds of the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs rallied, but were unable to outscore the Bears, giving them a 51-43 win and punching Blair’s ticket to the state tournament.
The Bulldogs ended their season with a record of 19-6. Alliance, throughout their season, were Western Conference Champions, regular season champions, as well as the sub-district winners.
