Carnegie Arts Center announces the arrival our Summer Adventures student exhibit in our studio gallery. The exhibit will be on display until Jan. 16. Gallery hours are 10-4 Tuesday through Saturday. Art camp instructor Robert Peltz has been toiling away for weeks selecting and framing student work. The entire studio gallery has been transformed into an array of brilliant colors, shapes, and creative characters. We are so proud of our students and it is an honor to get to showcase their talent and hard work! The pieces include warm up drawings, paintings, paint splatters, and mixed media 3-D creations. Due to the high number of local COVID cases, we will not be having an artist reception this year, but we still invite all of our students’ family and friends to visit the studio at their leisure to celebrate these budding young artists.
Don’t forget! Gering Nebraska artists Gretchen and Bill Peters exhibit “The Peters Show” is still on display from Oct 31st through January 2nd. Gretchen Peters served as the art teacher at Gering High School for 35 years and now makes art derived from her surroundings using colored pencil as the medium. She is a master of her craft and has transformed a simple medium into vibrant, photorealistic images. Gretchen has work in collections across the country. She has served on the boards of the Nebraska Cultural Endowment Advisory Council, Nebraska Arts Council, Humanities Nebraska, Judicial Nominating Commission, West Nebraska Arts Center, Nebraskans for the Arts, Nebraska State Historical Society, Theatre West, and Oregon Trail Days committees. Gretchen earned degrees at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Chadron State College (summa cum laude). She works and resides in Gering.
Bill Peters is an accomplished photographer whose collection at the Carnegie includes desolate, hauntingly beautiful landscapes. In his professional life, Bill practices law in Gering with a degree from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. He has been a member of the West Nebraska Arts Center Board of Directors and the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Midwest Theater since its founding. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Oregon Trail Days Association. One of his photographs was displayed at the Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer in Grand Island for a year. He was awarded Best of Show, Black and White, in a Rapid City photo show and has received a number best of show awards at the West Nebraska Arts Center.
