Cats Remain Undefeated after Win over Lions

Homecoming activities at Hemingford High School continued Friday with a home football contest against Morrill. For the third straight game, the Bobcats shutout of their opponent. The hosts took down the Lions 59 to 0 to go to 5 and 0 on the season. Hemingford raced to a 45 to 0 after the first period and cruised to the victory. The Cats extended their margin in the second and led 51 to 0 at halftime. Scores again came in all forms as the Bobcats scored on both defense and special teams along with 6 touchdowns on offense.

Bobcat Jayce Haas started the scoring with a 51 yard kick return on the game’s first play to get the Cats off to a strong beginning. Quarterback Jacob Bryner added the PAT and with 11:52 showing on the clock, Hemingford led 8 to 0. Morrill would go three and out of their first drive and a short punt by the Lions gave the Cats great field position. The Cat’s second tally came on a 12 TD carry by Bryner. The extra point kick by Bryner was good as the Cats surged ahead 15 to 0. A fumble on the guest’s next possession set up another Bobcat score. Running Talon Payne would score from the 20 yard line and add the PAT which increased the margin to 23. The lead then went to 30 to 0 after a blocked punt set up a 3 yard TD carry by Zaine Feist. The first quarter came to an end with 2 more Cat scores. A 25 yard pick 6 by Jayce Haas made the score 37 to 0 and a 29 yard touchdown scamper by Carson Haas put the Lions deficit at 45 to 0.

In the second, the hosts scored once while the defense kept the shutout in tack. Morrill was forced to punt of both their attempts while a 5 yard TD run by Josh Miller made it a 51 to 0 ball game. The PAT was no good and with 5:37 remaining in the half, the Bobcat advantage stood at 51. Both teams had one more possession but no more points were scored.

The 35 point rule was used in the second half with a running clock. Both clubs had the ball once and failed to score. A nice gain right before the end of the third by Hemingford’s James Lanier set up the Cats final score. With 6:45 left in the game, Lucas Sulzbach scored to extend the Bobcat margin. Sulzbach added the extra point as the Cats rolled to a 59 to 0 lead. Morrill had one last chance but were turned away. Final Hemingford 59 Morrill 0
