Basketball action on Tuesday had the Alliance St. Agnes girl’s teams traveling to Hemingford to take on the Bobcats in a pair of contest. A strong second half keyed the Cats to a 31 to 24 win in the opening varsity game. The hosts got the victory in the JV affair, defeating the Crusaders 19 to 12. With the loss, Alliance fell to 5 and 5 on the year while the JV squad is now 3 and 7. Kamryn Haas led Hemingford with 10 points. For the Academy, it was Penn Vergil leading the way with 14 points. The Cat’s top scorer in the junior varsity match up was Adde Bryner who tossed in 8. Alliance got 6 points by Paisley Intermill to lead the JV effort. In the varsity affair, SA was up by 2 at halftime but it was the Bobcats making the plays in the final periods. The hosts outscored the Crusaders 17 to 8 in the second half in getting the W.
Quarter #1 was a close one with Hemingford tallying 8 points and the Academy scoring 6. Two first period hoops by Haas led the Cats. Alliance got early buckets by Kale Hulquist and Vergil to take a 4 to 2 lead. The hosts then went on a 6 to 0 run to surge ahead 8 to 6. Period one ended with a score by Vergil and the Academy down 8 to 6. Also getting into the scoring column for the Bobcats in the first were Braylee Hansen and Emerson Horstman.
A mini run in the middle of the second helped the Crusaders take a small lead. The period began with a Cat basket and the hosts going up 10 to 6. Another hoop by Vergil then ensued. Down by 4 later in the period, SA got 3 points by Hulquist and a free throw by Alexis Shelmadine to stay close. The half came to a conclusion with baskets by Hulquist and Shelmadine and the Academy up 16 to 14. Scoring 4 points for Hemingford in the second was Adalymn Krebs while adding a hoop was Haas.
Six third period points by Vergil kept the guests in range. Hemingford began the quarter with 6 straight to surge ahead 20 to 16. Following a pair of free throws by Vergil, the Cats extended their cushion with 4 consecutive points to go up 24 to 18. Quarter 3 ended with back to back hoops by Vergil and the Bobcats ahead 24 to 22. Hemingford got 4 points each in the third from Haas and Krebs. Horstman also scored in the stanza.
An Alliance comeback was turned away in the final period. Hemingford would score 7 points in the quarter while holding the Academy to just 2. A Vergil score at the 5 minute mark made it 27 to 24 but the game’s last 4 tallies went to the Cats. Five Hansen points led the way for HHS. Also scoring in the fourth was Lanee Sorensen. Hemingford led throughout in the second game of the night. A score by Cat Benni Sorensen was the lone tally in the first. Paisley Intermill had a pair of hoops for Alliance in the second. The Cats scored 7 in the second and led 11 to 4 at half. Leading the offense was Atlee Gasseling who 3 point. Also scoring in the second with one bucket apiece were Harley Payne and Bryner.
Both clubs scored 4 points in the third. Baskets by Bryner and Khloe Stricker paced the hosts. The Academy got third period buckets by the Intermill sisters-Paisley and Addison. Heading to the fourth, St. Agnes was down 13 to 8. Once again Alliance scored 4 points in the period. Alliance got hoops by Nala Reza and Addison Intermill. The Bobcats tallied 6 points in the fourth with 4 points by Bryner leading the way. Kail Buser also got into the scorebook in the quarter. final Hemingford 19 St. Agnes 12

Alliance goes to Morrill on Thursday. Both schools will take part in the Conference tournament in Harrison on Monday.
