Box Butte General Hospital (BBGH) is pleased to announce, Dr. Brian Shelmadine, DO, PhD, CSCS, CASQSM as the Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective June 12, 2025. Dr. Shelmadine will pause on clinical work starting July 1, but with the support of the board and the senior leadership team, his intention is to start practicing medicine again by September.
Current CEO, Lori Mazanec, has been out for a medical leave of absence and will continue due to a new treatment option that has been presented to her through Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She hopes to return early this fall. Dr. Shelmadine is the current Chief Medical Officer and has been with BBGH since 2020. He has been a primary care and sports and lifestyle medicine provider since 2015 and has been working in adjacent fields of exercise, nutrition, teaching, coaching, and strength and conditioning since 2003. Michael O’Dell, Chief Financial Officer, has been the Interim CEO in Mazanec’s absence and will be leaving BBGH at the end of June. Mazanec stated, “On behalf of the entire BBGH staff, I am grateful Mike was willing to step into the interim role during my absence, and want to thank him for his service the past several years, along with helping us fulfill our mission. I wish him the best in his next chapter.” Lutz and Associates, an accounting firm, will assume the Interim CFO role while BBGH recruits a Chief Financial Officer with the help of Bryan Health’s Rural Division in Lincoln, NE.
