Wednesday’s matchup featuring Alliance Seniors versus Chadron had a little bit of everything. A big lead by Alliance. A Chadron rally. Even a rare triple play turned Alliance. And when the dust settled it was the host team the Platte Valley Bank coming out on top 7 to 6. The Alliance Spartans grabbed an early lead of 6 to 0 before Chadron came back with 7 straight runs to garner the win. The Peltz Co Tony Escamilla went the distance for Alliance, giving up 6 hits and striking out six.
Escamilla helped his own cause with a leadoff single in the top of the first. The Spartans would score 2 runs in the frame. Eventually Escamilla would score on a Chadron wild pitch. Kegan Nelson then walked and scored on an RBI hit by Kaden Ferguson. Another hit for the Spartans by Jaxson Martinez ensued but both runners were stranded. Chadron went 1-2-3 in the home half of the first.
Four big second inning runs by the Peltz Co powered Alliance to 6 to 0 margin. Six walks plus another Ferguson hit helped Alliance increase their advantage. Walks came from: Cody Gallas, Lexton Salcido, EJ Garcia, Escamilla, Nelson, and Creighton Fritzler helped Alliance surge ahead 6 to 0.
Escamilla was sharp in the bottom as the Platte Valley Bank went scoreless. The turning point of the contest came in the third. Alliance was denied any runs while the hosts plated 5 runs. Chadron used a couple of walks, 2 errors by Alliance, and 2 hits to close their deficit to 1. In inning #4, Chadron tied the game at 6 with single and another miscue by the Spartans. Despite hits from Alliance’s Mikey Johnson and Gallas the Spartans failed to score in the fifth. The hosts then took the lead but a triple play turned by the Spartans denied Chadron any more runs. Heading to the sixth, Alliance trailed 7 to 6. Both team’s bats were silent in the next attempt. Two strikeouts by Escamilla helped keep Alliance close. In the seventh, the Peltz Co rally was turned away as Chadron held on for the 7 to 6 win.
