Sweet revenge was on the minds of the Alliance girl’s volleyball team on Monday with a road game against Chadron. Back in September, the Lady Bulldogs fell at home to the Cardinals in 4 sets. Chadron was able to answer the call in the rematch, besting the Dogs in three sets 26 24 25 12 and 25 14. Alliance was led on offense by senior Addison Weber who finished with 9 kills while Kaitlyn Shannon was the point leader with 9 tallies. Chadron also got the best of AHS in the earlier matchups. In the first battle on the night, the Cardinals won the reserve ball game by scores of 25 9 25 15. The hosts also took the JV affair, winning 25 15 25 10.
Five first set kills by Weber helped the Dogs stay close in the opener. The set was tied at 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 18, 21, 22, 23, and 24 before Chadron scored the last 2 points in getting the victory. Early points and ace spikes by Alliance’s Paz Cody, Ryli Poss, Weber, and Olivia Krejci led the Bulldog offense. A kill and point by Poss gave the Lady Bulldogs a 9 to 7 margin midway thru set one. Senior Kaiah Adams then had 2 kills to keep AHS in striking distance. At the midway point, a pair of Weber kills knotted the set at 14. Shannon then went to the service line and ran off 4 straight as Alliance surged ahead 21 to18. Two of Shannon’s tallies were aces. Ace spikes by Weber and Poss gave the Dogs set point at 24 to 23 but unfortunately the hosts tallied the battle’s final 3 points as the Cards won the opener 26 to 24.
Set 2 featured a big spree by the Cardinals. With the set tied at 2, Chadron went on a 9 to 0 run to go up 11 to 2. A kill and a point by Shannon stopped the spree but 2 more Cardinal tallies make it 14 to 5. The clubs then swapped points with the hosts maintaining their cushion. Kills by Weber and Alexis Libsack highlighted the Bulldog effort but in the end it was the Cards making the plays. Chadron got the win set 2 by the score of 25 to 12.
Momentum stayed on the side of the hosts in the third. The Cards raced to an 8 to 3 advantage with AHS getting kills by Weber and Adams. A pair of Shannon tallies sliced the Dog deficit to 8 to 6. Chadron responded with 5 consecutive points later in the set to take a 13 to 6 lead. The Cardinal margin went to 19 to 8 before a kill by Weber made it 19 to 9. Strong plays down the stretch by Weber and Adams gave the Dogs hope but the Cards proved to be too strong. Set #3 went to Chadron 25 to 14.
