With another Heritage Days in the books, Alliance Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Owen Burnett is highlighting the success of the annual event that draws people to Alliance to take part in the festivities.
“I think this year’s event was full of energy and excitement, from the Grand Marshal all the way to the parade,” said Burnett. “It seemed vibrant and exciting.”
Burnett explained that turnout this year was at its pinnacle for several events, including the Dave Kimmel Disc Golf Tournament.
“As far as attendance numbers, I personally heard that the parade was fun this year, different from previous years, although I am not sure what created that sense,” Burnett said. “93 runners for the Fun Run 5k/10k was their highest turn out ever, 85 disc golfers for the Dave Kimmel Tournament was their highest turnout ever. So the events that took place were well attended to say the least. The crowds at Band on the Bricks were hefty and the vibe was festive, the reunions had good turn outs, ours at Derby’s Food Court was PACKED!”
Burnett cited the economic benefits of Heritage Days as a major part of its continued success. He explained that Alliance is unique in the way it hosts this event.
“Financially, this event makes the town money, we did $70k+ is presale tickets and we are the only Frazier show carnival that does this style event, having it downtown in the heart of the community,” said Burnett.
This year’s festivities were Burnett’s first as Executive Director of the Alliance Chamber of Commerce. He explained that this event was a learning experience for him and that he is already planning for next year’s Heritage Days.
