City Celebrates Employees at Annual Awards Banquet

The City of Alliance recently hosted its annual Employee Awards Banquet, a tradition that celebrates the dedication, hard work, and accomplishments of its workforce. Held at Golden Hour Barbeque, the event brought together employees from all 11 departments for an evening of recognition and camaraderie.

The banquet kicked off with a welcome and blessing from Seth Sorensen, City Manager, and acknowledgment from Mayor John McGhehey, who expressed gratitude for the invaluable contributions of City staff. “It is truly an honor to stand before every one of you this evening. It is a privilege to showcase your achievements and most importantly celebrate the countless hours worked, along with your commitment and dedication to this great City of ours.,” said Mayor McGhehey. He continued, “Our jobs can sometimes seem thankless, trust me that is not the case. I understand that what you do for us as Council and the community can take time away from your families, loved ones, and friends. This does not go unnoticed; I can promise you that. Keeping our City running smoothly is not an easy task, but together as the ‘City of Alliance’ you do an exceptional job.”

This year, the City welcomed 17 new employees across various departments. Each new hire was acknowledged by Councilman Travis Turman for their fresh perspectives and commitment to serving the community. Councilman Jay Weisgerber recognized six employees who earned well-deserved promotions in the past year, highlighting their leadership and dedication to professional growth. Those recognized included Police Captain Kirk Felker, Dispatch Supervisor Hannah Gerth, Golf Course Superintendent Brian Kimmel, Police Sergeant Joshua Norris, Code Enforcement Officer Angie Scott, and Senior Center Cook Dia Steel.

A highlight of the evening was the recognition of employees celebrating milestone anniversaries. Employees were honored for their years of service in five-year increments, with awards presented to those reaching 45 years. This year’s honorees included:

Each recipient received a commemorative award, words of appreciation, and a gift for their enduring dedication and impact. Afterward, Councilwoman Tearza Mashburn recognized employee accomplishments, those who earned certifications, and employees in leadership positions in their respective professions. The evening concluded with closing remarks by Councilwoman Tearza Mashburn.
