Humanities Nebraska Speaker to Appear at Alliance Public Library
Michael McDonald will share “Cowboy Poetry and Nighthawk Tunes” on Monday, June 23 at 7 pm at the Alliance Public Library. This presentation is made possible by Humanities Nebraska, the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, and the Alliance Public Library Foundation as part of the Humanities Nebraska Speaker Bureau. Bring along your family and friends plus your lawn chairs to enjoy this presentation in the APL Rose Garden, weather permitting. In case of inclement weather, this event will be inside the Alliance Public Library. Michael’s Humanities Nebraska presentation “Cowboy Poetry and Nighthawk Tunes” features an introduction to early nighthawk tunes, which were initially a tool of the working cowboy to keep the herded cattle settled down at night.
Michael McDonald hails from Yankton County, S.D., growing up on a couple of farms with six brothers and a sister. He is a Vietnam era veteran, a graduate of the University of South Dakota, and retired four years ago as the Yankton County Veterans Service Officer. Enjoying his time as a full-time retiree, his kids and siblings keep him busy pulling weeds, spading out vegetable gardens, and trimming up and mowing the summer cabin site two brothers and a sister own. Debbie and Mac are up to five grandchildren, with their elder daughter, her husband and four boys living just outside of Sioux Falls, so they moved to Sioux Falls so Deb can spoil those boys in a matter of minutes. They also enjoy spending time with their sole granddaughter and her parents who live on the East Coast.
