City of Alliance Offers Many Recreational Facilities

The City of Alliance takes pride in the many recreational facilities offered to Alliance residents and visitors. Three of Alliance’s most popular outdoor recreational facilities are Skyview Golf Course, Big Blue Bay Swimming Pool and Carhenge. All three are part of the Culture and Leisure Services Department and overseen by CLS Director, Shana Brown.

Skyview is managed by Golf Course Administrator, Jerad Palmer who oversees the daily operations of the pro shop, coordinates the Jr. Golf program, provides private lessons, and manages tournaments and other activities at the course. Course maintenance is managed by Golf Course Foreman, Richard Halsted and Golf Course Maintenance Worker, Brian Kimmel. The golf course also employs seasonal staff during the busy summer golf season. Golf course staff work diligently to maintain our beautiful 18-hole championship golf course and a fully stocked pro shop where you can find clubs, golfing supplies and accessories and Skyview merchandise.

Big Blue Bay Swimming Pool is the perfect place to cool off on a hot summer day. The pool features a zero depth entry with two water features for younger swimmers and a water slide and diving board for the more advanced swimmer. The pool is managed by Erin Armstrong and employs twenty-seven (27) seasonal staff members who all acquire the necessary training and state certifications necessary to respond to emergencies at the pool. Pool staff train throughout the season to ensure they are prepared for emergencies.

Carhenge is Alliance’s largest tourism attraction which brings in over 100,000 visitors annually. Carhenge was built in 1987 as a memorial to Jim Reinders father, by the Jim Reinders family. The Pit Stop Gift Shop was built in 2007, and the attraction was gifted to the City of Alliance in 2013. Carhenge is free to the public and is open year round from dusk until dawn. The Pit Stop is open seasonally and is run by five (5) seasonal employees under the supervision of CLS Director, Brown.
