Clarke, Romick Propel Spartans to Victory in Wyoming

The Alliance Senior Spartans team had a rough week in baseball, where they saw action in Rapid City, Gering and Gillette.
The Spartans traveled to Rapid City, S.D. for a double header against the Post 320 Stars. The Spartans just could not get anything going in their first match as they got shut out 0-7. The second match of the night, the Spartans could just not get much going as the second match ended with a score of 2-12.
The Spartans recovered from the losses in Rapid City as they headed for their next scheduled road game in Gering, where they beat the Platte Valley Companies team with a score of 9-1.
The Spartans headed to Gillette on May 28 for the Gilette Memorial Day Tourney, where they took on the Jackson Giants, Laurel Dodgers, Bucks AA and the Gillette Riders.

The weather did not favor baseball as there were game delays due to the rain. The Spartans ended the tournament with a record of 1-3.

The Spartans’ first day and game of the tournament was against the Jackson Giants, where they just couldn’t seem to get anything going, suffering a loss with a score of 0-8. The Spartans’ second game of the tournament was against the Laurel Dodgers, where they put up a fight but couldn’t get the job done as they suffered another loss with a score of 4-7.

On the second day of the tournament, the Spartans redeemed themselves in a close game against the Bucks AA, where the score was Bucks 2, Spartans 5 all the way up to the seventh inning. At the top of the seventh, the Bucks came back to tie the game 5-5.

It was the bottom of the seventh and Spartan Caeson Clarke was up to bat against the Bucks’ pitcher. Clarke got four balls and walked to claim first base. Spartan Drew Romick was now up to bat.

Ball one! Caeson Clarke stole second on a passed ball.

Ball two! Strike one! Clarke steals third!

The pitch comes, Romick hits a single toward left field and Clarke runs home for the win, with a final score of Bucks 5 Spartans 6.

The Spartans’ second game of the day was against the Gillette Riders, where they came up short with a final score of Riders 9 Spartans 1.
