Clifford Gene Higgins Obituary

Clifford Gene Higgins, 88 died Friday, August 2, 2024 at his home in Alliance, Nebraska. 

Clifford was born on October 15, 1935 in Yuma, Colorado to Robert and Ruby (House) Higgins. A sister, Deloris and two brothers, Robert Higgins and Henry Russell followed Clifford. Clifford received his GED in Alliance, Nebraska in 1980 alongside his wife Nedra.

On May 20, 1957, Clifford married Nedra Dykes. To this union, two children were born, Alberta (Higgins) Maddox and Michael Higgins.

Clifford’s hobbies included bowling, fishing, hunting and playing the lottery. Clifford enjoyed his mornings spent at local convenience stores having coffee and visiting with local patrons until ill health.

Clifford worked many jobs in his life including ranching (cowboy), Electric Hose and Rubber Co., Pepsi Bottling Co., Harris Sales and was the owner of Higgins Construction for 30 years until his retirement. His son Mike worked alongside him learning the construction trade that he has used for many years and still does to this day. He built his daughter Alberta’s first home as well as his and Nedra’s home that they lived in until his passing.

Preceding Clifford in death were his parents along with his sister and brother-in-law Delores and Chet Hampton, his brother Robert Higgins, father-in-law and mother-in-law Raymond and Betty Dykes and sister-in-law Hazel Livingston.

Survivors include his wife Nedra, his children, Alberta (Kermit) Maddox and Michael (Monica) Higgins; his brother, Henry (Clara) Russell of North Platte, NE, sisters in-law, Jeannie (Rik) Taylor of Omaha, NE, Etta (Bob) Taylor of Gering, NE and Denise Everhart of Gering, NE, brothers-in-law, Butch Dykes of Mitchell, NE, Clint Livingston

of Lewellen, NE and sister-in-law Tina Dykes of Morrill, NE; six grandchildren, Leo Brandle Fowler of Rushville, OH, Beth (Spencer) Brenneman of Crestline, OH, Jessica Haines of Mt Pleasant, SC, Kash Maddox of Alliance, NE, Ryan (Laura) Higgins of Alliance, NE, and Steven (Travis) Higgins-Prelle of Denver, CO; five great-grandchildren, Brice (Hannah) Brenneman of Willard, OH, Isabel Brenneman of Crestline, OH, Evan Haines of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Macy Brooks of Alliance, NE, Dawsyn Higgins of Alliance, NE and two great-great granddaughters, Lucy and Nora Brenneman of Willard, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be announced at a later date. Final resting place will be at Whitman Cemetery.
