July 15 is this year’s grant application deadline for the Bill and Virginia Coffee Family Foundation. Non-profit organizations that are either entities of government or have 501(c)3 tax status are eligible to apply. As established by Bill and Virginia Coffee during their lifetimes, the foundation awards grants annually in Sioux, Dawes and Box Butte counties. Since its inception, the foundation has given almost $994,000 for projects that enhance residents’ quality of life and safety.
In 2024, the foundation made grants totaling $87,100 to organizations in the three-county area. Among the recipients were the Sioux County Historical Society ($4,000), Harrison Volunteer Fire Department ($7,500), Crawford Food Pantry ($1,500), Crawford Rural Fire District #4 ($7,500), Fort Robinson Western Wildlife Art Show ($3,350), Post Playhouse ($7,500), Carnegie Arts Center in Alliance ($7,500), and the Village of Harrison for swimming pool repairs ($5,000). The largest grant of $40,000 was awarded to the Sioux County Schools for the new playground.
