Rapid City Christian was in town on Monday for a basketball contest again the Alliance boy’s JV squad. Strong play by Bulldog guards Creighton Fritzler and Jaxon Poss led the hosts past the Comets 49 to 36. Fritzler was Alliance’s offensive leader with 17 while fellow guard Poss added 12 tallies. AHS was up by 6 at halftime and extended its margin with a strong third quarter.
Fritzler and Poss combined for 9 points in the first as the Dogs got off to a good start. A 2 by Poss plus a Fritzler free throw gave the hosts an early lead. Rapid came back to tie the game at 3 but another score by Poss made it a 5 to 3 ball game. Alliance then increased its margin thanks to a 2 by Tanner Salcido and 4 Fritzler points. Quarter one ended with 4 straight by the Comets and the Bulldogs out in front 11 to 7.
Five quick tallies by the guests is how the second began . Down 12 to 11, AHS ran off 6 consecutive points with the Dogs getting deuces by Poss, Fritzler , and Jaden Guerra. The first half concluded with the clubs swapping scores. Alliance got another bucket by Guerra and a buzzer beating 3 from Tray Best. After 2 periods of play, Alliance was ahead 22 to 16.
Alliance put together a strong third, outscoring the visitors 15 to 6. Twelve points in a row by the Bulldogs put the score 34 to 16 with 2 minutes left in the quarter. The scoring started with another trey by Best. Five tallies by Fritzler along with a Poss hoop ensued as the Comet deficit went to 16. Salcido continued the spurt with 2 free throws. Rapid responded with a 5 to 0 run to get close at 34 to 21. Period #3 finished with AHS getting points by Jackson Devlin and Fritzler. Alliance led 37 to 22 after 3 quarters of action.
In the fourth, the Alliance offense continued to click. The Dogs scored the game’s next 11 points to go up 48 to 22. During the spree, AHS got 2 baskets each by Fritzler and Poss plus another 3 pointer by Best. A trey by the Comets ended the fury. Alliance’s final point came on a free throw by EJ Garcia. Rapid closed by scoring the contest’s final 11 tallies but it too little too late.
