Community Invited to Celebrate Walz Tonight

By Patricia Jones

It’s time to celebrate the national attention that is being brought to Alliance and to Nebraska! Former Alliance Public Schools teacher Tim Walz is a contender for Vice President of the United States! Walz, a Democrat, has been selected to be the running mate of Kamala Harris in the 2024 Presidential election.

Tim Walz taught Social Studies and Geography and served as an assistant coach for APS from 1991-1996. In 1996 Walz moved to Mankato, Minnesota, his wife Gwen’s home state, where they both continued their teaching careers. In 2006 Walz left his career in education to serve in Congress. Walz represented his southern Minnesota district in the House of Representatives for six terms, 2007-2019. He is currently in his second term as Governor of Minnesota.

Former students, colleagues, friends, and neighbors are invited to share stories and memories about Governor Tim Walz, and to celebrate all the recognition this is bringing to Alliance! The event will be held in Alliance’s Central Park, north of the fountain, on Wednesday, August 21, at 5:00 pm. The event is designed to be non-political.

While in Alliance, Walz not only taught school, but was active in the National Guard. In the summer Walz led student trips to China, where he had spent a year teaching after graduating from Chadron State College.

Come hear some fun stories about Walz’s classes, coaching, trips, or stories about his contributions to our community. Please join everyone in the park Wednesday evening to learn more about Tim Walz, candidate for Vice President.
