The Alliance Peltz Co senior Spartan ball club hit on all cylinders Saturday night in their contest versus Sidney. Alliance tallied 8 hits, scored 6 runs, and committed 0 errors in a 6 to 0 win over Post 17. Starting pitcher Tony Escamilla went the distance, giving 0 runs on 6 hits while walking none. Offensively catcher Mikey Johnson continued his solid play, registering 3 of the Spartan hits.
Espen Lanik also had a nice night going 2 to 3 while scoring 2 of the Alliance runs. Also garnering hits for the Peltz Co were Kaden Ferguson who had 2 and Roman Escamilla.
A sweet double play turned by the Spartans in the first inning kept the guests from Sidney off the scoreboard. Lanik got Alliance off to a super start in the home half of the first with a leadoff single. Johnson then began his big evening with his first hit, an RBI single to scored Lanik. After one inning the Spartans led 1 to 0. Escamilla would then record his first strikeout in the top of the second, keeping the Alliance lead at 1 to 0. The Peltz Co would also fail to score in the inning as the game went to third with Alliance still out in front by 1. Another scoreless inning by Escamilla ensued with the Spartan starter adding another strikeout to the scorebook. A leadoff walk by Alliance’s Carver Nemnich began things in the last of the third. It was followed by a single by Ferguson and an RBI groundout by Nason Thompson. After three complete Alliance margin grew to 2 to 0.
Both teams went scoreless in the fourth while Escamilla shut down Sidney also in the top of the fifth. Three big Spartan runs in the bottom of inning #5 gave Alliance some breathing room. Lanik reach after being hit by a pitch to start the scoring. After stealing second he scored on a RBI single by Ferguson. Another hit by Johnson plated Ferguson as the Alliance lead grew to 4 to 0. Lexton Salcido would pinch run for Johnson and would score on a Post 17 wild pitch. Heading to the sixth the Peltz Co led 5 to 0. Sidney tallied 2 hits in their final at bat but a perfect relay play by the Spartans kept the shutout alive. In Alliance’s last at bat, Roman Escamilla, Lanik, and Johnson all singled. Escamilla would plate the final run as Alliance went on to post the 6 to 0 win.
