At their meeting last Tuesday, the Alliance City Council members issued a proclamation declaring the week of Jan. 26-Feb. 1 as Lutheran Schools Week.
Council Member Earl Jones read from the proclamation, noting that educating young people has been “an integral part of the heritage and the life of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod from its 1847 beginning.”
Throughout the United States, there are more than 200,000 students enrolled in the Protestant school system.
Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran School in Alliance has served the community since 2014, and has approximately 160 students enrolled.
“The purpose and mission of Lutheran schools is to equip children, young adults and their parents to prepare for service and leadership in Lutheran congregations,” Jones read. “Graduates of Lutheran schools have gone on to distinguish themselves through service and leadership in community, government and the church.”
At their previous meeting, the Alliance City Council also proclaimed the week of Jan. 27-Feb. 2 as Catholic Schools week.
