The curtain came down on a very successful season for the Alliance St. Agnes Academy girl’s basketball team with a second place finish at the Panhandle Conference tournament. St. Agnes dropped a 40 to 13 decision to Crawford to end their season with a 9 and 3 record. Alliance defeated both Hyannis and Hemingford to reach the finals while the Rams downed both Cody-Kilgore and Edgemont to get into the champion contest. Crawford used a big first period in getting the win. The Rams outscored the Academy 15 to 0 in the opening quarter and cruised to the victory. St. Agnes was hampered with the loss of leading Reese Armstrong who was injured earlier in the day and didn’t play against the Rams. The games were played in Morrill.
Crawford wasted no time in the first quarter. The Rams used a smothering full court press to shut out the Crusaders. Crawford forced turnovers which led to some easy points as the Rams took a 15 to 0 lead after one quarter of action. In period #2, the Rams increased their margin thanks to 12 more points. St. Agnes would get a hoop by Aubree Shrewsbury and a free throw by Maslin Breen to get into the scoring column. At half, SA was behind 27 to 3.
In the third, scoring was limited. The Rams would outscored the Lady Crusaders 6 to 2 in the quarter to push their advantage 33 to 5. Scoring 2 points in the third for Alliance was Quinn Robertson. St. Agnes got the better of the Rams in the fourth. Alliance tallied 8 points in the quarter to 7 by Crawford but the damage was already done. Five points by Shrewsbury paced the Academy offense. A goal by Penn Vergil and a Robertson free throw by Robertson accounted for the rest of Alliance’s fourth period points. Final Crawford 40 St. Agnes 13
