Crews Make Quick Work of Utility Pole Fire

The top of a utility pole caught fire, in the 1200 block of W 14th St., the night of Thursday, April 24.

AVFD Chief Troy Shoemaker said the conditions were just right to cause the fire.

“It sounds like it might have been a cracked insulator at the top of the pole and then the mist and moisture in the air just kind of helped that go,” said Shoemaker.

Getting the fire under control was quick work.

“The electric crew was already there when we got there and there was a very small fire at the top of the pole. The electric crew went up in one of their bucket trucks and extinguished very small fire at the top of the pole and after that we pretty much left and they made the necessary repairs,” Shoemaker said.
