Homecoming activities continued Friday night for the Alliance High School with a football game versus Ogallala played at Bulldog stadium. The visiting Indians used a powerful running game, timely passes, and a strong defensive effort in defeating the Bulldogs 36 to 0. Alliance finishes the year with a 1 and 8 record. Leading the Dog’s offense was running back Trini Trejo who ended with 48 yards rushing while quarterback Jay Shelmadine completed 7 passes.
Ogallala was stout on the defensive side right from the start. The guests forced a three and out on the Bulldog’s first offensive possession. Starting from the 34, OG went right to their running attack. Tackles by Alliance’s Chano Montas, Cole Stoike, and Ethan Schultz briefly slowed the Indians but a 7 yard run on fourth and one from the 43 continued the drive. With 6:13 on the clock the Indians used an old fashion trap play to get on the board. The TD play went 35 yards as the visitors surged ahead 8 to 0. Following 3 unsuccessful offensive plays, AHS had to punt the ball back to Ogallala. It would take the Indians 8 plays, mostly on the ground, to increase their margin. On the last play of the first period, OG scored again on another trap play that covered 18. The guests led 16 to 0 after one quarter of action.
Alliance began the second with a great drive. Taking the ball at the 32, the Dogs used a couple of good runs by Trejo and EJ Garcia to advance into Ogallala territory. Alliance was also aided by a pair of Indian penalties to get into scoring position. Passes to Trejo and Bulldog Devan Graham then got the Dogs close. Four attempts inside the five yard netting no points unfortunately for the Bulldogs as AHS turned the ball over on down. Starting on the 2, OG was quickly turned away after three plays as the Bulldogs got the ball right back at the 33. A 17 yard pass from Shelmadine to end Espen Lanik ensued but an OG interception followed as the Dogs went away scoreless. Beginning at the 13, the Indian offense went to work. A pass that went 13 yards was then followed by a 20 yard run that pushed the ball into the Bulldog territory. With 25 seconds remaining in the half, the Indians scored again on a tipped pass that the Indians caught in the end zone. The play went 29 yards and the half closed with Alliance down 24 to 0.
Quarter #3 was a scoreless 12 minutes of play with both team’s defenses dominating. A big sack by Bulldog defensive end Jaden Guerra foiled an OG drive midway through the period. Meanwhile, another turnover by the Bulldogs kept the hosts off the board. The quarter came to a close with the Indians still up by 24.
On Ogallala’s next series, the Indians finally broke through. The guests used 9 plays that covered 32 yards and ate up most of the clock. With 5 minutes left in the contest, the Bulldog deficit now stood at 30 to 0 following a 4 yard td run. The game ended with another unsuccessful Bulldog drive and a 2 yard TD run by the Indians.
