Angie Davis is a recent graduate of Alliance High School, who will be playing basketball at Doane University next year. She has won many accolades while at Alliance High School and is excited and determined to reach her goals.
Davis transferred from Hyannis and came to Alliance High School her sophomore year.
“My mom owns a dance studio in Alliance, and it was hard for her to come to Hyannis to all my games. My goal was to play college basketball and I wanted to get the best career I possibly could,” said Davis.
Davis’s love for basketball started at a young age, along with dance, which she has been doing since she was three. She began in the yard with her older brothers, and she began dancing at three years old she has committed over 15 years to basketball and dance.
“I have been playing basketball since I was super little. I grew up playing basketball with my older brothers out in the yard. I was on a travel team, and that’s where I found my passion for being a basketball player,” said Davis.
Davis has won multiple awards for basketball during her high school career: she won the Lincoln Journal Star and Omaha World-Herald honorable mention her freshman and senior year and the overall MVP award her junior and senior year, a team captain award her senior year and academic all-state and all-western conference first team. Of all the awards Davis had won, one resonates with her the most.
“I think the overall MVP award I got senior year means the most to me because it was voted on by my teammates, and that makes me feel like I was a good leader and led my team to success,” said Davis.
Davis prepares for basketball in her off-season by getting into the gym two to three times a week, where she would put up shots and play with teammates.
“My high school basketball Coach Crile has always been there for me and opened the gym for me,” said Davis.
Davis recently played in the All-Star Basketball game in Gering, where her experience was bittersweet as it would be her last time playing in high school, but also getting ready to play basketball at the next level.
Davis has learned a lot of lessons in basketball while playing that she can use in different situations, like overcoming her sophomore season where her basketball team went 0-23.
“Composure has taught me to keep composed during the hard times, keeping a positive attitude toward things when times get hard. I have had a lot of ups and downs,” said Davis.
Davis will be headed to Doane University next year, where she committed to playing basketball. She will be majoring in nursing with a minor in strength and conditioning.
“When I went there for my first visit, I fell in love with it. I loved the coach, the campus is beautiful and the team was very welcoming,” said Davis.
Davis has set goals for the future.
“I want to play all four years of college basketball at Doane and one day, I want to become a pediatric nurse,” said Davis.
With the NBA finals being here, Davis talked about who she wants to win and who she’s rooting for out of the Celtics and Warriors for the NBA championship.
“I’m rooting for the Warriors. Steph Curry is my favorite basketball player because he follows through with everything he does and seems like a good person overall. He’s an excellent three-point shooter. I want to be like him. He can shoot from anywhere,” said Davis.
