Alliance hosts a league night for disc golf every Wednesday at 6 p.m., where players of all skill levels are welcomed.
Disc Golf is a game that involves arm swing and footwork to create solid fundamentals. It teaches mental composure that can be applied to other aspects of life.
“It helps me remain calm in situations that would otherwise anger me,” Jim Greene a member of the disc golf league who spoke about what disc golf teaches him.
Disc Golf is more than just throwing a piece of plastic in nature. It is where people can come together and enjoy conversations and laughs. Whether it is with new friends or old friends. League night offers the opportunity to just get outside and get some fresh air, exercise and meet new people. Whether you have been playing for years or are new to the game.
“Wednesday league in Alliance provides a good opportunity for beginners to play a competitive round and to learn multiple throwing styles from a couple of the best disc golfers in the Nebraska Panhandle. Alliance is lucky to have one of the most challenging courses in the Panhandle. The course is also very versatile in that there are multiple tee pads and basket placements,” said Robbie Cerv a member of the disc golf league.
The league does bag tags toward the end of the season along with prizes and even talks of an ace pot. An ace is a hole in one.
There are multiple tournaments throughout the year for Disc Golf some of the upcoming tournaments include The Dave Kimmel Memorial Disc Golf Tournament 2022. The first D.K.M. was held in 1999 and is in memory of Dave Kimmel, who spearheaded the fundraising install and design of the original nine holes in 1998.
He unfortunately lost his life to cancer shortly after. The Alliance Disc Golf Committee is working with the Alliance Park Foundation for fundraising for the tournament. There is also The United Way Tourney that is in the works.
