Exciting developments are underway in Western Nebraska! The opening of the Lake Mac Casino, Resort, and Race Track, located near Interstate 80 and Highway 26 in Ogallala, marks a significant milestone for our region. More than just entertainment, this project serves as a catalyst for long-term economic growth, especially with the return of quarter horse racing to Nebraska for the first time in years. Already, it’s generating a ripple effect, with increased traffic off I‑80 and longer visitor stays near Lake McConaughy, businesses in Ogallala and surrounding communities are seeing real benefits.
Tourism is one of Nebraska’s most vital industries, and Western Nebraska plays a key role in that success. From the Sandhills to scenic byways, our region offers unparalleled outdoor recreation, rich pioneer history, and genuine small-town hospitality. Notable destinations like Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area, Ash Hollow State Historical Park, Fort Robinson State Park, Toadstool Geologic Park, Agate Fossil Beds, Chimney Rock, War Bonnet Battlefield, and Carhenge draw thousands of visitors each year, offering a unique blend of adventure, heritage, and natural beauty.
Meanwhile, picturesque golf courses, including Bayside, Hillside, Oregon Trail, Chimney Rock, Dismal River Club, Sand Hills, Prairie Club, CapRock Ranch, GrayBull Club, and Four Winds Golf Course, provide big skies, wide-open fairways, and peaceful prairie vistas. These attractions aren’t just beautiful, they’re economic drivers that bring in visitor dollars, support jobs, and help keep our communities strong.
According to state data, tourism generates billions in economic activity across Nebraska. With continued investment in infrastructure and attractions, we can ensure that more of this growth happens right here in District 47. As your Senator, I remain committed to supporting policies and partnerships that promote tourism, empower small businesses, and sustain the economic vitality of Western Nebraska. Let’s keep the momentum going and continue building a bright future, one that celebrates the unique character of Western Nebraska and welcomes visitors from near and far.
