God spoke to the Israelite nation through His prophet Isaiah (55:6-7): Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him, and to our God, for He will freely pardon.” I believe that call is still ours and is strengthened by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. How much do we appreciate that God wants us? He desires our love and our allegiance to Him and His Son, Jesus. God desires our heartfelt worship and our devotion to Him and His church.
II John, verse 6, is a test for us: “And this is love; that we walk in obedience to His commands.” Obedience tests our will. We live in the sphere of love and obedience. When we were children we loved and obeyed our parents. Obedience was a vital part of our schooling. Our vocations and our country require a measure of obedience. Above all those experiences is the love for God which leads to the pleasure of obedience. If you have not allowed Jesus to be your Savior, your guide, your Lord, the love of your life, obedience will be hard. Yet when Jesus becomes the way for your life, obedience is natural.
