Dogs’ D Dominate in Win over Hot Springs

Through their first three games, the Alliance girl’s basketball team has had some good performances on the defensive end. This is again was the case Saturday at Hot Springs. The Bulldogs down the Bison 44 to 21 in getting their second victory on the season. Alliance was especially stout in the third, holding the hosts to just 2 points. Top scorers for the game were Reese Armstrong who tallied 13 points while Paz Cody ended with 12 points. Going into the contest, the Bulldogs were holding opponents to only around 40 points. Alliance held the hosts to just 4 buckets in the first half and led by 10. In the first game of the evening, AHS won the JV contest. The Dogs defeated the Bison 49 to 34.

Two early tallies by HS put the Dog deficit at 4 in the opening stages of the game. Baskets by Brooke Bailey and Armstrong followed that tied the game at 4. Down 6 to 4, an old fashion three point play by Armstrong ended the scoring in the first period with Alliance out in front 7 to 6.

Keyed by a pair of Cody three pointer, Alliance gained control in the second. Knotted at 7, it was a big spree by the guests that followed. It started with a 3 by Cody and a 2 by Hannah Benzel. Up by 5, a hoop by Olivia Krejci and another three ball by Cody made the score 17 to 7. The quarter came to close with Bison score and another deuce by Armstrong and AHS up 19 to 9.

Quarter #3 was a good one for Alliance as the visitors scored 12 and held the hosts to just 2. Ten consecutive tallies by AHS put the hosts down by 20 at 29 to 9. Alliance got points from Bailey, Addison Weber, Armstrong, and Krejci to take a big advantage. At the 2:15 mark, Hot Springs finally got on the board but the period ended with a 2 from Armstrong. After three periods of play, the Dogs had a 31 to 11 lead.

In the finale, the Bison netted 13 points and the Dogs scored 10 to maintain their cushion. Early scores from KK Adams and Armstrong kept the Dogs ahead. Another three by Cody at the with five minutes left put the Bulldog lead at 38 to 15. With 2 minutes remaining and the visitors up 38 to 19, Cody finished her scoring with another 3.
