Dogs vs Cats Battle Goes to the Bluffs 55 to 26

On Friday, the Alliance girl’s basketball team took their 2 game winning streak into a contest with the Bearcats of Scottsbluff. The Lady Bulldogs fell behind early and were defeated by the Cats 55 to 26 in a matchup played in Alliance. With the loss, AHS now has a 3 and 17 record on the season. Sophomore Brooke Bailey was the Dog’s top scorer with 10 points while Addison Weber had a nice performance scoring 5 points and grabbing 7 rebounds. The Bluffs also got the win in the JV contest, defeating the Dogs 55 to 14.

A 9 to 2 opening run by the Bearcats got the guests off to a solid start. The game began with the Bluffs tallying 8 straight to get the early advantage. A 2 pointer by Alliance’s Kayel Lambert stopped the spurt but a Cat free throw was next as the Bluff lead went to 9 to 2. Senior Macey Seebohm at the 4 minute mark then drained a trey which made the Dog deficit stand at 4. Scottsbluff answered back with a three of their own plus a 2 pointer that gave the Cats a 14 to 5 lead. An old fashioned 3 point play by Bailey finished the scoring in the opening quarter with Alliance trailing 14 to 8.

Scottsbluff’s defense was stingy in the period #2, holding Alliance to just 4 points. The quarter began with a three ball by the Bluffs and a 2 that put the Cats lead at 19 to 8. Seebohm tacked on a free throw later in the second but 7 straight by the visitors gave the Bluffs a 26 to 9 margin. Alliance’s lone hoop in the quarter came at the three minute stage on a 2 pointer by Seebohm. The half came to a close with a free throw by Weber and a buzzer beating basket by the Bearcats. At half, SHS led 28 to 12.

In the third, the teams traded baskets. A 2 by the Cats started the action while AHS got a bucket by Weber. Following another hoop by the guests, a three by Bailey drew Alliance close at 32 to 17 with 6 minutes left in the quarter. Weber then gave the Dogs a chance with two pointer but it was as close as Alliance would get. Up 32 to 19, Scottsbluff put the game away with a 7 to 0 spree that pushed their lead to 20. Another hoop by Bailey stopped the spurt at the three minute mark. The period finished with 4 more points by the visitors and Scottsbluff leading 43 to 21.

Eleven consecutive points by the Bluffs is how the fourth started. The Cats made 4 two pointers plus a triple to go up 54 to 21 at the 4 minute stage of the final period. With under 2 minute remaining, Alliance broke through with another goal by Bailey. The game came to a conclusion with a free throw by the Bearcats and a three by Alliance sophomore Paz Cody.
