Donald Lee Chick Obituary

Donald Lee Chick, 86, of Milligan, NE and long time resident of Hyannis, NE, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2022 at Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 10:00 am at the Congregational Church in Hyannis.  Burial will follow in the Hyannis Cemetery.

Don was born April 28, 1936 in Montrose County, Colorado to Harold Chick and Iva Pearl Blume. He graduated from Montrose High School in 1954.

Don married the love of his life, Darlene Wright, on June 30, 1957. To this union, 5 daughters were born, his beloved 5 Ls.

Don worked very hard to support his family. He retired from PREMA on April 30, 2001. He worked through electrical storms, blizzards and sub-zero weather, many times in the middle of the night, to keep the lights on for people in the Sandhills.

Don was a volunteer fireman, serving for over 38 years, 15 of them as an EMT. He was very dedicated. When the whistle blew, there was nothing holding him back. He even showed up a time or two with no glasses or in his slippers, but he was there.

Don enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. If they were around, you could always find him in the middle of the floor playing with them. Whether it was a rousing game of UNO, a tea party or a horsey ride, a great time was always had by all. They loved their “Papa Chicken”!

Don is survived by his daughters Lydia Tucker and husband Joe, of Milligan, NE, Laurie Mochel and husband Steve, of Roeland Park, KS, Lucinda Chick of North Platte, NE, Ladonna Crisman and husband Josh, of Gretna, NE and Lorena Rockwell of Syracuse, NE, grandchildren Cassandra Tucker and husband Lonnie, Mary Mochel, Ashlee Lemley, Kenzie Buskirk and husband Christopher, Devyn Hayes and husband Samuel, Reagyn Crisman, Brandon, Tanner, Shelby, Kyler, Kaiden and Aliyah Rockwell, and great grandchildren Layla, Matthew, Logan, Maggie, Ben, Aaron, Harper, Bralynn, Ila, Kyle, Raven and Evelyn.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene, parents Harold Chick, Iva Blume and Melvin Blume, Uncle Clarence and Aunt Belle Chick, Aunt Ruby Moon, sisters Marilyn Blume, Leona Thompson and Ruby Roberts, and grandchildren Joseph Tucker, Sarah Mochel and Hunter Lemley.
