Donna Louise Avenger, aged 91, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2024, at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance. Born on December 24, 1932, in San Luis Obispo, CA, she was the daughter of Alfonzo Emery and Pearl Evelyn (Driscol) Mallagh. On April 9, 1954, in San Jose, CA, Donna united in marriage with William A. Avenger.
Donna is survived by her children: Marc A. (Susie) Avenger of Indianapolis, IN, Charles D. Avenger of Denver, CO, Donald V. (Michelle) Avenger of Spokane, WA, Carolyn (James) Stratton of Mountain View, CA, and Margaret (Patrick) Cain of Alliance. She leaves behind 12 grandchildren: Jordan, Carolyn, Rosie, Marc, Andrea, Philip, Margaret, Ann Marie, Dustin, Tyler, Amanda, and Patrick, and 6 great-grandchildren: Everett, Ayla, Eleanor, Lex, Maudi, and Dro. She is also survived by her sister, Ramona McBeth of San Luis Obispo, CA.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband William, her sister Margaret, and her great-granddaughter Rosalie.
Donna cherished her family and played an active role in their lives. She had a distinguished career as a rehabilitation nurse, specializing in the care of patients with head injuries, strokes, and joint replacements. Donna brought a positive attitude to every life turn and cared deeply for those she knew. She was an avid reader, an accomplished cook, a talented rug hooker, and a birding enthusiast.
The family would like to thank the staff at Highland Park Care Center for their loving community and tender care over the past six years.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 27, at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel, with Pastor Garry Schick officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Friday from 4-6 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.
