Dorothy Lucille Kirchhoff left our earthly world on June 2, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Her 92 years were filled with love, adventure, hard work, and proud moments. When a person thinks of what a full and wonderful life could be, one only needs to remember how Dorothy lived hers.
Dorothy’s funeral will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Alliance, NE with the Reverend Tim Stadem officiating. Interment will be at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery near the Skyview golf course that Dorothy happily played at for many years.
Dorothy was born on June 6, 1929, in Scottsbluff, NE, to Fred and Marie Benzel. She had four sisters and one brother and graduated from Scottsbluff High School. Dorothy married her loving husband, Wally, on July 18, 1948. They were married for 73 years. On December 10, 1954, their son Kenneth was born. Dorothy was a longtime member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church. Some of her favorite activities were going to church, golfing, square dancing, and playing bridge. She was an avid volunteer at Carnegie Arts, Box Butte General Hospital Giftshop, Hospital Auxiliary, Hilltoppers, she was a cub scout leader, served her church family, and also delivered Meals on Wheels. Many people will also remember her as a checker at the Jack and Jill Grocery Store.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Wally, and her son, Ken Kirchhoff (Nancy) of Fort Collins, CO, her grandchildren, Amy Reynolds (Andy) of Fort Collins, CO; Betsey Kirchhoff of Wellington, CO; and Brian Kirchhoff (Avery) of West Palm Beach, FL and her great grandchildren; Kayla and Allie Reynolds, Jasmin Kirchhoff, and Ryder Kirchhoff. She is also survived by her sisters Marian Schwartzkoph of Portland, OR, and Janet Bentley (Darrell) of Gering, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marie and Fred; her sisters Eileen Jay and Caroline Groskoph, and brother Arthur Benzel.
Our family extends our love, gratitude, and appreciation to mom’s many friends, young and old, who were with her until the very end of her time here on earth. A very special thanks to Home Health, Hospice from Regional West Medical Center, Sally Bryner, and the doctors, nurses, caretakers, and other staff at the Box Butte General Hospital. Appreciation to all others who helped with services, food, visits, and more; we are very thankful for you. Memorials may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
