Doss Bound Over in Alleged Axe Attack

An Alliance man has had his case bound over to District Court and is facing charges arising from an alleged axe attack.

Dustin Doss faces two felony charges and is set for arraignment in Box Butte County District Court later this month after waiving the right to a preliminary hearing. According to the Probable Cause Affidavit, those charges stem from an incident in June.

On June 21, an officer with the Alliance Police Department was waved down near East Second Street and Mississippi Avenue by an individual saying he had been assaulted and had his cell phone taken by Doss, according to the Affidavit. The individual told the officer that Doss struck him with an axe, showing the officer a large bruise and laceration above his left hip. He also had lacerations to his face from wrestling with Doss after he was struck.

“(The Victim) advised he struck Doss with a pool cue after he was struck with the axe in self defense,” the Affidavit states.

Officers entered the victim’s residence and found a broken pool cue. Officers made contact with Doss in the 600 block of West 4th Street and Doss told officers he was in an altercation with the victim, saying that he had been assaulted. Doss also provided officers with the victim’s cell phone, according to the Affidavit.

Doss was arrested and charged with second degree assault, a class 2A felony, and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, a class 2 felony. He is set to appear in District Court on July 23.
