Dr. George A. Hofmann, 84, of Johnston, IA, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022, at this home.
George was born March 24, 1938, in Burlington, IA, son of Chauncey Conrad and Vera Ione (Cranston) Hofmann. He moved with his family to Alliance, NE where he attended school and later Chadron State University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree. He furthered his education at Colorado State University where he finished his school to become a veterinarian.
On June 25, 1961, he was married to Jean Nora Braddock and they lived in Fort Collins, CO. George was employed by the USDA as a Meat Inspector. He also worked with the Horse Protection Program, monitoring Puppy Mills and after retirement worked for Hy-Vee.
In his free time he enjoyed raising Homing Pigeons and he received many awards through the years. He also enjoyed hunting, training his German Short Hair’s, and working in his well-maintained orchard growing peaches, apples, pears, and a huge garden.
He was preceded in death by his parents Chauncey and Vera, two sisters, Betty Grace and Mary Elliott.
He is survived by his wife Jean, four children, Lynette (Louis) Gornick of Papillion, NE, Sharon (Larry Ludwig) Hofmann of Johnston, IA, Wayne Hofmann of Grimes and Kathy Hofmann of Altoona, IA, three grandchildren, Jessica Ludwig, Parker and Ashley Gornick, two great grandchildren, Michael and Gunner Ludwig. A brother Wayne (Janice) Hofmann of Cornville, AZ.
Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 12:30 p.m. at Iles Brandt’s Funeral Home in Dallas Center on Friday, May 20, 2022.
