An accident involving a vehicle and a train left one person with serious injuries on Wednesday night in Box Butte County.
The Nebraska State Patrol did not release the driver’s name, but explained that they were northbound on Highway 385, driving a Mitsubishi Outlander. Cody Thomas, Public Relations Director for the Nebraska State Patrol said the collision occurred at about 11 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 385 and Highway 2.
“The vehicle left the roadway, traveled through a field, crossed Highway 2, and came to a stop on the train tracks parallel to Highway 2. The driver was able to exit the vehicle before the vehicle was struck by a train,” said Thomas.
The driver of the vehicle was flown to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff to be treated for serious injuries. Thomas explained that the accident remains under investigation.
