The Alliance Prep baseball squad faced off the with the Regulators from Gordon/Hay Springs on Monday and came away with a 15 to 10 win. Alliance used an 8-run fourth inning to break open a close contest. The Peltz Co Spartans ended the evening with 9 hits, led by Miguel Galvan who finished with 4 hits. Teammate Tanner Salcido added three. Pitching for the Spartans were: Caysn Nelson, Kyler Hamel, and Eban Lore.
In the first, the Spartans jumped out to a 2 run lead. Lead off hitter Jay Shelmadine walked and advanced due to 2 errors by the Regulators. Salcido then plated Shelmadine with his first hit on the night. An RBI single by Galvan put run #2 on the scoreboard for the Spartans. With Nelson on the hill, Gordon scored one run in the bottom of the inning on a RBI triple. Both teams were held scoreless in the second. Nelson would record 3 strikeouts for Alliance in the inning. In the bottom of the third, the Regulators tied the contest at two following 2 singles and a miscue by the Peltz Co.
Things got wild in the top of the fourth as Alliance tallied 8 runs. Hits by Galvan, Esai Trejo, Drayden Konopnicki, and Salcido made the score 8 to 2. Another single by Galvan plus a Gordon error made the score 10 to 2 heading to the bottom of the frame. The Regulators responded with 4 of their own in the bottom of inning #4. Using 3 hits, a walk, and a couple errors by Alliance, the hosts pulled within 4. Spartan relief pitcher Kyler Hamel put out the fire with 2 straight strikeouts to end the rally. In the fifth and final inning of action, both teams scored 4 runs apiece. A wild pitch and a balk helped Alliance go ahead 11 to 6. The 1-2 combo of Salcido and Galvan gave Alliance 2 more runs on back to back hits. Another walk and wild pitch closed the inning with Alliance out in front 15 to 6. The Security First Regulators sliced the Peltz Co lead to within 5, using 4 hits and an Alliance error, but it wasn’t enough. Final Spartans 15 Regulators 10.
