Game #2 of Tuesday’s home doubleheader with Gering saw the Alliance Prep Peltz Co ball team shutout the guests 10 to 0 in a contest which was called in the bottom of the fourth due to the run rule. The Spartans posted 8 runs in the third inning and added 2 more in the fourth for the victory. Alliance also won the opening game 11 to 2. Starting pitcher Smiley Valdovinos went the first three innings, giving up just one hit and striking out 3 Gering hitters. Mason Winter hurled the fourth and kept the shutout intact. Meanwhile the Peltz Co batters tallied 8 hits on the evening. Catcher Israel Garcia and third baseman Reese Muhr both had big nights of the plate, collection two hits apiece. Valdovinos helped his cause with 2 hits as well.
A Valdovinos strike out ended Gering hopes in the top of the first with the guests failing to score. With 2 outs in the bottom of the first Garcia singled but was stranded and the contest went to the second tied at 0. Gering then would get a walk and a single in the second but a couple of solid plays by the Spartan defense ended the threat with 0 runs. Muhr singled in the home half of the second. It was followed by 2 Spartan walks to load the bases with 2 outs. An Alliance groundout for out #3 denied the Spartans any runs. Valdovinos was especially sharp in the 3rd, registering 2 more Ks and keeping the guests off the boards. Things got wild in the bottom of the third with the Peltz Co scoring 8 runs. Twelve Spartans would bat as Alliance surged ahead. Back to back wild pitches by Gering would score Preston Flores who was running for Garcia and Jackson Devlin who reached on a Gering error. Two more walks to Kyler Adams and Muhr continued the rally. A Gering balk scored one more Spartan run and a successful squeeze bunt by Valdovinos gave Alliance some breathing room. Cooper Galles added another Spartan hit to keep the inning alive.
The Peltz Co lead then grew to 5 to 0 on an RBI hit by second baseman Teegan O’Gorman. Fletcher Moseman drove in another Alliance tally by reaching on a fielder’s choice to make the score 6 to 0. The inning closed with a 2 run single by Garcia and the contest went to the fourth and final frame with Alliance ahead 8 to 0. Winter held the lead with a scoreless top of the fourth, giving up no hits. The ball game came to a close with 2 more Spartan runs. Adams was hit by a Gering pitch to began the scoring. Back to back singles by Muhr and Valdovinos was followed by walks to Gallas and Jaden Garcia that plated the final run.
