There are some new faces on the Alliance School Board and the Box Butte County Board of Commissioners after elected officials took their oaths of office to serve.
On Thursday morning, Box Butte County District Court Judge Travis O’Gorman swore in Box Butte County Commissioner Steve Burke. After Burke was sworn in, the commissioners underwent reorganization, during which, Susan Lore was elected to serve as the Chairwoman of the Board. Mike McGinnis, who served as the chairman of the board in 2020, was elected to serve as the Vice Chairman.
Burke replaced former Box Butte County Commissioner Doug Hashman after winning in the 2020 general election.
At the Alliance School Board meeting Monday evening, Superintendent Dr. Troy Unzicker administered the oaths of office to Jake Sylvester, Dave Rischling and Shana Brown.
After the members were sworn in, the school board reorganized. Tim Kollars was elected to serve as the board president, Brown was elected to serve as the vice president of the board and Edison Red Nest III was elected as the secretary/treasurer of the board.
Sylvester and Rischling replaced former board members Karen Trussell and Tim Richey after winning their races in the 2020 general election.
