Elene Goding Sandorff, 87, of Alliance, Nebraska left us peacefully in Loveland, CO, on December 24, 2024, after a valiant struggle with COPD. A beloved wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother, Elene will always be remembered for her wit, devotion to family and students, passion for progressive causes, culinary skills, working out, and celebrating her Irish heritage.
Born in May of 1937, in Alliance, Elene grew up the daughter of Dr. A.L. and Helen Ryan Goding (both deceased) and sister to Rita Al Jones, Sara (Burt) Smith (deceased), and Joan (Dr. Dennis) Andersen, as well as one brother, Dr. Norman (Kathleen) Goding. She was married to John Sandorff for 60 years, and together they raised two children, Jeanne and Ryan (Emanuela). Elene was also a proud grandmother to Annalisa and Luca.
Elene graduated as valedictorian of St. Agnes Academy before earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska and a master’s degree in special education from Bradley University. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and Phi Beta Kappa, reflecting her lifelong commitment to learning and achievement.
Elene devoted her career to education, beginning as a middle school English teacher in Alliance, Nebraska, and then in Denver, Colorado. Later, she transitioned to teaching high school special education in Illinois, where she made a meaningful impact on the lives of her students.
A private service will be held at a later date to honor Elene’s life. May her memory bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
